Market Analysis:

For every Blog Prep Kit, Style Collective examines the trends and predictions for influencer marketing and the economy — so you don’t have to. Our aim is to make this information approachable and actionable. This research also helps us create timely content to give our SC Sisters a competitive edge in the blogging sphere!

Influencer Marketing

COVID-19 has and will continue to change the way influencers connect with their followers. Traackr says, “It’s important for influencers to keep their privilege in check. They’ll need to offer something other than an aspirational lifestyle to their followers.” (source) People are still stuck at home, and they’re looking for something relatable. Sharing recipes, workouts, skincare tutorials and more can be authentic ways to connect with your audience.

The good news is, there are lots of eyes on your content right now. Later.com writes that “engagement on sponsored content is increasing as Instagram usage has increased by over 40%,” and “the average screen time is up to 5h40m per day, an 18% increase.” (source)While people are stuck at home, they’re turning to digital spaces for entertainment. But with more eyes on content, there’s also an expectation that the quality of that content will be much higher.

Target Marketing mag says influencers are a valuable marketing tool in the COVID-19 world. “Now more than ever, social media needs to be a source of accurate information, education, entertainment, and positivity.” (source) Sensitivity and authenticity are key; brands and influencers should both be considering what their followers need, and how they can serve their audiences during these difficult times.

The Economy

When it comes to the impact of COVID-19 on the economy, the National Retail Foundation says, “How quickly the country gets a handle on containing the virus will determine the degree of the impact on the economy.” Unemployment is at a staggering record high, and businesses have been forced to temporarily close their doors. However, “the economy entered the COVID-19 corridor with sound fundamentals,” which will hopefully help us avoid another “Great Recession.” (source)

Keep this information in mind as you plan your content for the month of July! Look carefully at your demographics and pay attention to what your readers and followers care about.
